Day 2: Called According to How I Am Made

If you have just reached this site: This is Day 2 of a discernment retreat.Would you like to start at the beginning?

For it was you
who formed my inward parts;
you knit me together
in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
that I know very well.

(Psalm 139:13-14)

"Having gifts that differ according to the grace given us, let us use them..."

(Romans 12:6)

You are "wonderfully made," and you have qualities and gifts which are not only for your individual good, but which are also intended to be a blessing for the world.

As you ponder how you are made, always be open to the possibility that God may reveal gifts of which you are not yet aware.

Be realistic, however.  For example, if you weigh 90 pounds, it is unlikely that playing football would be your greatest gift to the world!

You might want to write your reflections in the box to the right and save or print out this page as part of your discernment journal.

What stands out for you in the scripture passages cited to the left?  Write in the space below (or in your off-line journal) any words or phrases that particularly strike you.

Keeping in mind what you have written, ask the Spirit of God to guide you as you ponder the following questions:

  1. What are the gifts and talents you recognize in yourself?
  2. What are the gifts you would like to have?
  3. What are the gifts you feel called to share?

(Hold down CTRL, if necessary, as you click.)

You might want to visit the Virtual Chapel, and simply sit in silence for a few minutes.

Offer what you have written to God, and ask that it may bear fruit as you listen to the call of God for you.

Close with the Our Father or the following prayer:

Loving God,
may I take on the mind and heart of Christ,
that I may hear your call for my life
and embrace your world
through my prayer, my work,

and my life with others,
in Jesus Christ.
Amen.
